Moderate - People with this type may have difficulty following speech without hearing aids. Though, chronic and untreated ear infections can cause permanent effects. Because of this, it can be blocked easier by conditions like large adenoids and other infections. There is a surgical procedure to correct conductive if it is chronic in the young child. "Grommets" can be inserted surgically via the eardrum allowing drainage of middle ear fluid but most children with conductive hearing impairment do not need this procedure.
